Our RVICS project for January 2009 was Camp Good News in Hitchcock TX. Hitchcock is located off I45 about 30 miles SE of Houston and 10 miles NW of Galveston. in April of 2009, Camp Good News was purchased from Child Evangelism Fellowship by Gulf Coast Four Square Church.

The men worked on leveling, siding and drywall installation on a building which was move from it’s footings during Ike, repairing screens, and repairing golf cars during the first week. For the next two and a half weeks the men added two room in place of a rear deck on a house scheduled to become the new camp office. Between jobs Ed made some additions to the Wifi system to ensure the RVICS at the camp and the SOWERs at the church could get on the internet. The ladies cleaned and organized in the kitchen, inventoried and boxed the office in preparation for moving, and painted an upper room area to be used for children’s ministries.

On our first tour day, we visited Galveston and Bolivar for a first hand look at Ike’s devastation. Second tour day was to the Johnson Space Center, and third was a trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science with a SOWER group working at the church.

Socials included; get together night, potato bake and video of Ike, birthday celebration, and Thursday lunches with the SOWERs provided by the church (good ribs, chicken, & ribs).
