Our RVICS project for January 2010 was Victory Ranch in Moreno Valley CA.
Victory Ranch is an 87 acre Ranch located in the foothills of the San Jacinto farming valley - 25 miles east of Riverside, California. Victory Ranch’s facilities comfortably accommodate a minimum of 25 and up to 200 people. Its Spanish-Western buildings stand as a silent reminder of the area’s colorful history. Victory Ranch is a ministry of the Regular Baptist Conference of Southern California.
This was our Third RVICS project at Victory Ranch. We had projects here in November 2006 and 2009. Our team for January was; Bea and Barney Kroeker, Jim and Bette Pickin, Dave and Peggy Pickin, Len and Eve Willems, and us, Ed and Mary Compton. We stayed at Victory Ranch for December 2009 where Ed worked on bathroom renovation (building a separate shower/dressing room) in the Stetson unit. The job included removal of a tub/shower, removal of hot water tank, removal of linen closet, removal of laundry facility, repair of floor and plumbing, framing of new area, drywall and texture, addition of tankless water heater, and installation of new rear entry door.
Ladies Work: The ladies did a lot of painting of T-1-11 panels and roof framing lumber for the building of a false front on the Recreation Hall. They also did other painting, sewed, cleaned and removed rust from the newly installed 40 foot storage container.
Men’s Work: Our main project was the addition of a false front to the Recreation Hall to promote the western theme of Victory Ranch. The men also re-roofed Stagecoach including replacement of bad lumber and sheathing much of it, upgraded the power panel in Trail Master, and completed the two bathrooms in the Stetson unit with the repair of the floors, dry-walling one wall, and installing vinyl flooring in both.
Tours: For tours we visited Diamond Valley Lake and visitor center, toured Scott Brothers Dairy, and toured the Golden West manufactured home factory. We also attended a RVICS reunion in Yucaipa with the team from Oak Glen. Our first Saturday of the project, eight of us drove to Quartzsite AZ for the RV show. We met with four couples from the Phoenix Christian School RVICS project there and enjoyed fellowship and lunch with them and our frends, Steve and Sue from Blyth CA.
The ladies of the group were looking forward to the birth of kid goats in the petting pen of the ranch during our stay a Victory Ranch. The birthing didn’t take place until the weekend after our departure - so - a return to the Ranch was mandated for the next weekend.
