On our way to Oakdale, we stopped for a tour of the Creation Museum. The museum depicts creation through modern times from a biblical view.
Oakdale Christian Academy is a grade 7-12 boarding school in the hills of Eastern Kentucky.
For this project, the ladies spent their time sewing. They repaired clothing for staff and students, made fitted sheets for staff, and made curtains for staff apartments. They even repaired furniture.
The men started the project installing insulation in a new duplex for staff housing. They then moved to cement work, repairing brick walls on two buildings, prefabricating and installing storm drains, forming and pouring a pad and ramp for the kitchen, and forming and pouring a porch on the new staff duplex. They also performed many small jobs around campus. Refinishing and assembling an oak table for the dining room, converting and installing dryers, repairing washing machines, replacing a leaking shower drain, repairing drywall in the kitchen, installing light timers, repairing bathroom vents in the boys dorm, and painting.
Our first tour day we toured WLJC, a Christian TV station in Beattyville, KY, and went to the Beattyville Woolly Worm Festival. Have you ever seen a Woolly Worm Race?
The second weekend we went to Salem, VA to meet Earl and Maria Newmiller (friends from the 1970’s who now live in Virginia Beach, VA). Salem was about 5 hours for each of us to drive. That weekend we visited the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA and took a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our last weekend we toured Mount Carmel Christian School and the Natural Bridge State Park.
While here at Oakdale, we had the truck clutch replaced. The throw out bearing was noisy. We also stopped at a Cat service facility and had the engine computer flashed to 300 hp, 860 fpt. This week we will see how the change effects climbing and fuel usage.
